This week we will work on a Sculpture / Installation Project.
We weren’t able to do any sculpture or 3-D projects during the school year because of time constraints, but we can try it out now. This project is inspired by the artist Alexander Calder’s sculptures called Mobiles. New Vocabulary:
Aim: To create a hanging artifact sculpture project that will hold and display our special objects and artifacts. Materials:
You can substitute many of these materials for other materials. For example, if you don't have a wire hanger, you can use a plastic hanger or a paper plate instead.
As always, take your time with this new project! I sped up the clip in this video, but it definitely took me longer than 5 minutes to do. Be very careful with the materials and don't be afraid to ask for help. Can't wait to see to photos of your work!

For this week’s project, we are going to create on abstract collages! Find the video here.
We made beautiful collages earlier in the school year, but this time we’re going to think more about our color choices. • Collage: an art work made by sticking different materials together • Abstract: something that doesn't look like reality. We can say it doesn't represent anything. Materials:
Color the paper using colors to show how you feel. For example, you may use yellow or orange to represent happiness. Or you can use blue or purple to represent sadness.Remember different colors mean differently to everyone, so you may use blue to represent a different emotion. Use scissors carefully! Cut slowly, watch your fingers, and never point the blade at your hand.
Hello,
We are going to do another scavenger hunt project, only this time we are going to build a color wheel! Find the video here. Find objects in different colors to create your color wheel. You can use clothing or fabric, books, food, bags, toys – any material that is safe to use! I found orange to be the hardest color to find. Can you find them all? Don't be afraid to find more objects for a single color. Art Vocabulary:
Extra Challenge: Can you make a color wheel using only fabric? Using only books? What about a color wheel that uses only warm colors? P.S. I love seeing all of your work! Can't wait to see what you come up with for this project.
Hello,
I created a video for this next lesson! Click play in the video above, or find the YouTube link Here! For this lesson, think back to the scavenger hunt from last week. Did you find everything? Do you remember where everything is kept? This week, choose one (or two) item that you found in the scavenger hunt. We will draw this item. We will focus on a different type of drawing called contour drawing. Contour drawing is where you focus on the "outline" of the object. We will be drawing simple lines that outline, or the edges of the object. You may choose any art material. I chose a crayon-like tool and a pen. You can use a pencil, marker, or anything that makes sense to you. Don't erase any mark you make. Every line matters. Mistakes are okay! Once you finish, you can take a photo and email your drawing to me. You may also do this project over and over again. Contour drawing is a great way to practice drawing and have fun. |
